Drexel Mid Century Modern Lounge Chair Super Rare. I have owned this chair for over 25 years. I got it exactly as you see it. It has a thick naugahyde turquoise vinyl covering That covers front and back. This chair originally was designed to have a oval Spring Steel peace in the rear allowing the chair to bounce. That peace had been removed prior to my ownership. It still does retain the original piano hinge so if you want to have a spring fabricated to take it back to original design you can do so easily. There are some cigarette melts to the vinyl as seen in the picture. Those also predate my ownership and have never bothered me in the least. This is a very rare chair it is not in perfect shape it has plenty of signs of use but still has a lot of life ahead of it. I have enjoyed it for over a quarter of a century and it’s time to pass it on. I do have this cross posted so this ad may disappear at any moment. Again this is an as is no return sale. Offered is a Mid Century fiberglass/burlap shell arm chair. The design has been attributed to Luther Conover. He was part of a group of designers (Pacifica Group) which included designers Muriel Coleman and Peter Rooke-Ley… Important figures in early California Modernism. The shell has a magnificent curvaceous form presenting an exquisite profile… The special textured finish is exceptional… A process where burlap cloth was molded into layers of fiberglass. The color is a soft rich golden brown and is poised against dramatic enameled black legs… Capped with the original plastic feet yeah!! The metal H- base design sits on thick rubber shock mounts which have a male/female design for attachment. In used vintage condition. This chair is unsigned and has no makers marks. Has some regular wear for a chair this age. Metal legs have some missing paint/ scratching. This would be a very easy restoration project. Just needs some new paint on the legs and maybe a coat of lacquer on the chair itself! Has a small chip/crack on the right side of the chair (see photos). Original Knoll Tulip Chair by Eero Saarinen. In the hard to find Yellow. Here is an original Tulip Chair by Eero Saarinen, made by Knoll. It retains the original tags. It has the original yellow upholstery and the original unrestored finish. There is some light staining on the upholstery but for being yellow its a true survivor. The base is tight like it should be – no wobble. The fiberglass is excellent condition – no cracks or chips. Light marks on the shell and base.
