RARE LAURIDS LONBORG DANISH MODERN TEAK OWL MID CENTURY MODERN BOJESEN FIGURINE. LAURIDS LONBORG DANISH MODERN TEAK OWL MID CENTURY MODERN BOJESEN FIGURINEThe owl has some black marks on his back and appears to have some white paint on the base. Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely magnificent, mid-20th century, Laurids Lonborg vintage lathe-turned teak body and either maple or birch hardwood eye sockets, ears and nose, highly stylized Modernist wooden owl, carved figure. It features black beaded eyes and a soft, bulbous teak body. The eye sockets, ears and nose are routered and inserted into drilled out recesses in the teak body and affixed with adhesive glue. The birch or maple hardwood eye sockets have a concave profile and an interior round darker wood, perhaps walnut, upon which the black beaded eyes sit. A hand-turned old growth teak bowl with very thin sides that measures 8 1/4″ diameter X 4″ tall. It is signed “Espenet” “Teak” and dated “’56”. The bowl has (3) brass plugs on the bottom to fill the holes left by the screws that attached the blank to the lathe. The sides of the bowl are extremely thin. Very hard to find another bowl by Espenet inscribed with the date. In good original condition with untouched original surface. Arthur Espenet Carpenter (1920 -2006) was an important early proponent of Studio Woodwork in Bolinas, CA. In 1950 his work was chosen for the MoMA’s Good Design Exhibits.

Recently reupholstered as well as fully restored. Recently imported from Denmark. Condition report: Very good condition after restoration. Fully reupholstered recently with new foam and fabric. Produced in Sweden during the golden age of Nordic modernism, Åberg’s piece exemplifies the region’s dedication to functional beauty and material integrity. Solid teak wood with original brushed aluminum liner. Mid Century Modern / Scandinavian Modern. 11″ tall x 9.75″ diameter at the opening (edge to edge). Minor signs of use consistent with age. The teak has a beautiful patina, and the aluminum insert is intact and clean. This piece features a gracefully tapered silhouette, masterfully constructed in warm Scandinavian teak with vertical grain orientation, and includes its original aluminum insert -often missing from surviving examples. Here’s a wonderful authentic piece of mid-century modern kitchen ware that is from Denmark. No stickers on this one, but you can find in comps that this is the real deal. Nice iron frame with round ceramic and a genuine teakwood handle. In great shape, just a few surface scrapes to the metal shown in the pics. A great add for any Scandinavian kitchen.
