Offered is a Mid Century fiberglass/burlap shell arm chair. The design has been attributed to Luther Conover. He was part of a group of designers (Pacifica Group) which included designers Muriel Coleman and Peter Rooke-Ley… Important figures in early California Modernism. The shell has a magnificent curvaceous form presenting an exquisite profile… The special textured finish is exceptional… A process where burlap cloth was molded into layers of fiberglass. The color is a soft rich golden brown and is poised against dramatic enameled black legs… Capped with the original plastic feet!! The metal H- base design sits on thick rubber shock mounts which have a male/female design for attachment. In used vintage condition. This chair is unsigned and has no makers marks. Has some regular wear for a chair this age. Metal legs have some missing paint/ scratching. This would be a very easy restoration project. Just needs some new paint on the legs and maybe a coat of lacquer on the chair itself! Has a small chip/crack on the right side of the chair (see photos). Rare bamboo flatware designed in the early 1950s by Danish designer Kay Bojesen in bamboo & stainless steel, set of 9 pcs. This pattern was available in 1955 (see advert) and is a rare style to find in the market today. Very chic, very elegant, very modern. Kay Bojeson is widely known for teal wooden monkeys and dolls, but her flatware designs and product designs were wide and varied. Marked Denmark, Universal Steel Co. I have lived in NYC for 30 years-since the late 80s-and have been in and around high fashion and luxury retail for decades. Through the years I found that “sourcing” items for specific events, photo shoots, and interior design projects was a valuable skill in a city that produces images, events, and interiors that influence how style is seen throughout the world. I started my career in New York City in the late 1980s dressing display windows at Henri Bendel & the elegant Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue in the glory days of real story-telling windows. It was there that I learned the art of styling designer clothing & creating an aspirational & romantic mood with merchandise that helps build a relationship with the clothes we wear, and the emotion that people have with properly presented merchandise. I had access to the finest luxury designer clothing like Claude Montana, Pauline Trigere, Coco, Mr Beene and others, and learned about expert seam construction, the feel of good fabrics, the details that matter, and the high tech fabrics that are constantly innovating the marketplace. It was also a time (the 80s) when the shift in the social food chain began to change, a time when the Ladies Who Lunch began to be replaced by a new moneyed group who changed the way retail was conducted, and I always longed for the days when shopping was an event, a treat, and “madame” was served champagne in dressing rooms and the clothes were not thrown on rounder racks in discount departments. My mother also wore lots of Bonnie Cashin in the 1960s and 1970s so I was aware of the modern minimalists, and sought them out for her when I found them. Since I’m shopping constantly, and love fancy estate sales and sample sales, I scour them regularly and with great skill; the result is an online shop that I consider a finely curated collection of vintage clothing, home accessories, & mid century odds and ends from high end homes in the New York City area. I love helping source stuff, and just KNOW that I have tons more stuff than is listed here, so if you are in film or television production just ask for specifics and I will probably have something for you, or be able to understand what you are looking for without wasting your time. Please check out my other items for sale! Vintage 1960’s Jens Risom aluminum group armless sofa. This rarely seen aluminum framed sofa is absolutely stunning. Reupholstered a few years ago in exquisite Grey Knoll Velvet (Mohair). Minimal flourishes include an aluminum back bar, and a nine button seat back. Note seat imperfections hence the low price. This sofa is the most comfortable armless sofa you’ll ever sit on. It measures 6’6″L x 32″ T x 31″D, with a seat of 15 1/2″ at it’s highest point. The foam and suspension are excellent. The frame is very nice and would polish up even nicer (we like the patina). The velvet fabric is the most forgiving upholstery we’ve ever seen. It hides almost all of the minor scuffs and scrapes from use. Teflon glides pictured were just temporary. There is one, very small (like less than 1/8 round) hole that does not go all the way through the fabric, located on the front of the seat of the sofa, left side (facing the sofa). Only noticeable if you are looking for it. It cannot be seen in any of the photos. Overall, excellent vintage condition.
