RARE MUSEUM QUALITY “Sing Sing” Steel Mesh Armchair by Shiro Kuramata. Designed by Shiro Kuramata, 1960s Japanese steel wire mesh “Sing Sing” armchair with roll form back and front to seat supported on a chrome tubular frame. For him, an object, a piece of furniture, an installation is never finished inside the borders of its own physicality. For him, around an object, or around a piece of furniture or around an installation there is never a silence, never abstract dust; always the air around is vibrating, as if it were shaken by a central provocation. That’s why very often Shiro was trying to represent not only the object, or the furniture, or the installation but also the many mysterious vibrations that were produced around. Mid Century Modernist Chess Set. This gorgeous and unique chess set is very rare. This beautiful set is made from what I believe to be brass and steel. The tops of the rooks, bishops, knights, king, and queen screw into the bases of the pieces. Hey are quite heavy with the kings and queens weighing in around 2.5 oz. The kings are just shy of 2 in height. The pieces are displayed on 1.5 squares, which I think makes a perfect pair (board for display only and not included). This is a beautiful fiberglass “Origami Chair” Faceted Form chair by Paul McCobb. It features dramatic lines on the seat that create a wonderful visual effect. The seat is free from any chips or cracks and has minor wear. The feet have been replaced at some point but function well. There is one bolt missing from the seat base but could be replaced.
