Vintage MCM 1960’s -70s Mid Century Modern Gruvwood Table Lamp W/ Original Shade. Shade a little discolored consistent to age and use with some light spots. NO RIPS ON SHADE. LAMP BASE in great condition with a scratch of black off on top of base, hardly noticeable. Unique SHADE is adorned with wood slats around top of shade to match the base. You might want to clean the shade with a shade cleaner? VERY RARE SHADE WITH THIS STYLE OF LAMP. LOOKS TO BE TEAK OR WALNUT from that ERA. NOT A WOOD EXPERT THO SO MAKE YOUR OWN ASSUPMTION. LOOK AT PICTURES GOOD AS THEY ARE PART OF DISCRIPTION. BASE BOTTOM IS 5 3/4 ” X 18 ” TALL WITH OUT SHADE.. WITH SHADE ON LAMP IS 29 TALL APPROX. SHADE IS 11 ” WIDE X 15″ TALL APPROX. This vintage desk lamp is a rare find for collectors. The lamp features a Nubian head design with a cone-shaped shade that is original to the 1950s era. Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a seldom seen Majestic table lamp with its accompanying fiberglass shade. The lamp has a very atomic feel to it! The base of the lamp consists of three ebonized wooden boomerang-shaped accent pieces that are connected in the center. Each of these wooden pieces culminates at a brass ring at the top, and a brass ring at the bottom – so, there are six in total (see photos). The lamp comes with it’s original wooden ball pull chain which is used to turn the lamp on/off. The fiberglass shade is a reddish color, and it has random black and silver painted designs on the exterior surface (again, see photos). It’s a great and unusual lamp for any collector of lighting! With the shade attached, the lamp stands approx. 33.5 tall (measured from the resting surface to the top of the shade). The distance from the resting surface to the light socket is approx. The distance from the bottom of the lower brass rings to the top of the upper brass rings is approx. Each of the brass rings measures approx. 3.5 in diameter. The fiberglass shade measures approx. 15″ tall, with the diameter at the top measuring 14″, and the diameter at the bottom measuring approx. Condition: The lamp is in very good condition for its age. The wood is free from chips, cracks, breaks, scratches, repairs, etc. The brass components are free from dents, dings, repairs, etc. They have a gentle patina that comes with age, and they still shine nicely. The fiberglass shade has some very faint creases which will come out with a steaming, or it can be left alone – we’re solely mentioning for accuracy – they aren’t bad at all. Aside from that, the shade is free from rips, holes, tears, punctures, burn marks, stains, etc. The electrical wiring appears to be original, and is in good condition – there are no frays, splits, exposed or brittle areas to the wiring. The plug tip has a little white paint on it that can come clean. The lamp is in fully-functioning, working order. We always recommend having a licensed electrician inspect the lamp prior to long-term use, just to be safe.

He let me know that his father lived in Cleveland OH, but went to New York City and Chicago to find furnishings and lamps for his home in the 1950’s. Note: This lamp is attributed to Gerald Thurston’s designs for Stiffel lamp co. Specific to this lamp is the custom shade that the original owner had commissioned for this lamp. From what I’ve been told by the original owner’s son, his father didn’t like the original shade offered and wanted a more “natural” look to the shade, so he had this one made. It features images of wheat, butterflies and scattered dried grass fronds. This lamp has a very unique switch to turn on the 3 light bulbs that the lamp takes. It was designed so that all 3 light-bulbs can be a 3-way bulb with varying degrees of brightness. It’s a very unique switch designed to really customize the brightness to the user! In full disclosure this lamp is not completely in it’s original condition. The owner let me know that he decided to spray-paint the original brass base with black spray-paint in the 1990’s to make it look new again. He didn’t realize that this would affect the vintage value. Is removable & it could be restored for those who are purists when it comes to these lamps. Note too, that on the black spray paint on the lamp, there are a few chips, exposing the original bright brass underneath. There’s also a few chips of the paint on the star-base along the edges of the base armature. Typically, this lamp in its orig. Condition would have been their natural brass color on the base with a white shade and the metal grid cover at the top would also be white. You can see in the pictures that the base is now black and the grid is black on the top facing the ceiling. However, the original white paint is still on the underside of the grid, so if you’re going to have it restored, you have the original color there that you can use as a guide.
