This is a beautiful and very striking Antique Mid Century Modern clay or red stoneware sculpture, depicting a voluptuous and alluring nude African American woman. The figure’s shy, and authentic gaze and her posture suggest a model who is perhaps shy and demure, not used to modeling nude. The most unique and wonderful aspect of this sculpture is her chubby and voluptuous figure, which is perfectly accentuated and modeled in a powerful and dignified way. Truly a beauty to behold. Appears to be made from a red pottery clay, and glazed with a luminous black paint or ceramicist lacquer. This figure likely dates to the 1950’s – 1960’s, but could certainly be much older. It appears to be unsigned. I believe this may have been sculpted by someone very important. Perhaps you recognize the artist? This sculpture in many ways reminds me of the sculptures by famed Mexican artist, Botero. Approximately 5 inches at its widest point x 14 inches at its highest point. This is a wonderful and very cool Antique Mid Century Black African American Modernism painting, oil or watercolor on paper, by important and regionally renowned East Coast artist Dr. Lanton 1913 – 1991. This work depicts an Abstract Expressionist scene, and is titled Exorcism by Witch Doctor. ” Signed “Wendell C. Lanton in bottom right. A label on the back reads: Black Esthetics – 1978, February 1-12. Title: Exorcism by Witch Doctor. D, 7 Stephen Street, Montclair N. Lanton was an educator, and an early pioneer of the Post – Harlem Renaissance Art movement that proliferated as an African American response to the Mid Century Abstract Expressionism, which was a predominately White genre of art. His works are very rare, and seldom come up for sale. Lanton was a prominent early member of the Illinois chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, an African American Fraternity established at Cornell University in 1906. Vintage KILLER Rare 1960s MCM Witco Tiki Bar Graceland Polynesian African. Rare and hard to find! William Westenhaver started the Witco or Western International Trading Company back in 1957. Their work become popular as the Tiki Movement spread throughout the 60s and 70s. They offered lounge chairs, art, bars, wall hanging, furniture and many more pieces. The wholy grail is the tiki wall world map. Eventually the company ran into financial issues and was unfortunately shut down in 1977. Today, many pieces are getting harder to find and commanding impressive prices. The late King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley was once rumored to have furnished his entire Jungle Room at his Graceland Mansion with Witco, after seeing it in the window of a downtown Memphis shop. His father, Vernon, was rumored to be less than thrilled with his son’s choice of furniture! Includes: bar, two matching stools. Bar rolls on wheels for ease of moment, top does not remove. Unknown type of wood and no markings. Lots of shelving for storage of drinks etc. Condition: stable, solid and useable as is. It is 60 plus years old. Expect normal signs of wear and tear from age and use. Wear to Original fabric on bar as well as seats. Mask had two minor indentations, some scratches, scuff marks throughout, half inch chip under top of bar on corner, cat? Scratches on left back of bar corner. Bar is stable and ready to use. Small tears in seat fabric. Keep as is and enjoy vintage or recover. Bar: 41h 68.5w 23d Stools: 30h 12w 12d Shelves: top 6 high 29w 10d Middle: 8h 29w 10d Bottom: 12h 29w 10d.
