Offered for your careful review and consideration is this killer vintage Marcello Fantoni (Italy) Modernist bas-relief, ceramic figurative plaque from Fantoni’s 1950’s’Caveman’ series of glaze decorated, figurative, 2-dimensional light wall sculptures, featuring an assortment of cavemen, their cavemen wives and cavemen children, often depicted humorously with tamed, seemingly benevolent lions, as sorts of domesticated pets and extensions of the cavemen nuclear family. Fantoni clearly was having fun here (perhaps a little too much fun) with this popular series, not nearly as high-minded and as conceptually lofty as his famous, otherworldly glazed ceramic vessels, which made him internationally famous. Signed and with the original affixed Gump’s San Francisco, California luxury retailer’s branded label still on the back. There’s not a whisper on it. It’s in simply incredible condition for those who crave the best and demand near perfection. This vintage Marcello Fantoni’Caveman’ series decorated figurative ceramic plaque of a caveman, cavewoman and a rather friendly, benevolent lion, delivers. It still has its original hanging hook and wire attached. It’s ready to go. What’s on your walls? It’s probably not an authentic, original, vintage Marcello Fantoni ceramic wall plaque of a caveman family looking back at you. You won’t find it at Wal-Mart, Target, Neiman-Marcus, Saks or Bloomingdales but you can find it here. Signed on the verso’Fantoni, Italy’ in cursive script with original affixed sticker from the West Coast department store Gumps that reads. Made in Italy for Gumps, San Francisco, California. Gump’s was a luxury American home furnishings and home décor retailer, founded in 1861 in San Francisco, California. The company was liquidated in 2018. Very good to Excellent, pristine, near immaculate overall condition. Not a whisper on it. If God pooped ice cream sundaes, this would be it. Extremely Rare & Large Mid Century 3-Arm Wall Lamp. Materials: This very large wall light is made out of black-lacquered metal and is equipped with three lampshades. The design of the lampshades is very typical for the 1950s: The shades are made out of glass and have a soft vanilla tone and are adorned with an etched pattern. Measurements: The total height of the wall lamp is 33.9 (86 cm), the max. 11.8 (30 cm). Each arm has a length of approx. 13.0 (33 cm). Each lampshade has a length of 5.1 (13 cm) and in the center a diameter of approx. 2.4 (6 cm). The total weight is 5.5 lbs (2,5 kg). Condition: The wall light is in very good condition with normal signs of wear. All three glass lampshades are undamaged. The metal parts and the brass elements show normal signs of wear consistent with age. The electric is in full working order, but as with all vintage wiring it is advisable to have it checked by an electrician before use. This is an authentic Mid Century wall light from Italy. For sale a rare, early example of a Mid-Century Modernist classic, the “Pipistrello” Lamp designed by Gae Aulenti in 1965 for Martinelli Luce of Italy. This large seminal Space Age lamp has a telescopic neck that allows for it to be used as either a table lamp or a floor lamp. “Pipistrello”, meaning Bat in Italian, derives it’s name from the iconically distinctive bat-wing shape of the shade. This example was sourced from it’s original owners and dates back to the early 1970s. The lamp is in very good vintage condition and has some marks and scratches, mainly to the lower brown trunk, commensurate with 45+ years of age and use but absolutely nothing to detract. The only issue of note is that the shade, which is seemingly in fabulous condition has got burn marks to the insides of the shade crevices, caused by having had it’s shade miss-mounted at some point in it’s history, and with one having burnt a hole through the shade. This is only noticeable if you look directly into the crevice (see photos) and faces the back of the lamp, however replacement shades can be ordered from Martinelli Luce, if need be. Superb, sculptural Modernist Italian Bitossi vase, very much in the style of Ettore Sottsass, vintage circa 1960s-70s. This tomato red high-gloss glazed vase is in perfect condition, and measures 6.25 inches in height, the width also being 6.25 inches. The underside is stamped’made in Italy’ and it also retains its high-end retailer label for’Gadgetissimo’ of Geneva. A fantastic modernist/post-modernist statement in fine condition.
