Vintage Mid Century Modern Laurel Floor Lamp with Blown Glass Diffuser Rare
This distinctive lamp stands 65.5 inches tall and has a base with a diameter of 11 inches. It is made of a variety of materials. The circular base is brass. The tube body is some sort of brushed steel with a coating of gold lacquer over it (a common manufacturing practice). This gold lacquer has been scratched away in a few locations and I have provided a few close up pictures to show those areas. This can be fixed fairly easily in the hands of an experienced technician, but it’s not terribly obvious when you’re standing back and looking at the lamp in its entirety. You need to be fairly close to the lamp to see them. There is a small pinhole dent in the tube that is positioned toward the top. Please review the pictures carefully for further details regarding condition, but on the whole I would say this lamp in very good vintage condition. The diffuser is made of hand blown glass. It drops into the tube and is held in place by threading the ball switch through a hole in the glass. There are no cracks or notable chips in the outer body of the glass. There is a “roughness” to the bottom of the diffuser where it’s completely hidden and at the hole that the ball switch is resting against the glass. It has a three-way switch that offers the option of having three different degrees of illumination provided a proper three-way bulb is inserted into the socket. I have this lamp listed as “rare” in the title simply because I have never seen another one on the internet or in an antique store. I don’t know to what degree this is true and I welcome any other examples or input regarding the origin of this lamp. Based on certain construction and style details I would speculate that this lamp is from the late 60s or early 70s.
