\uD83D\uDD25 RARE Antique Mid Century Modern Impressionist Enamel Copper Painting, Rouault
This is an vey RARE Antique Mid Century Modern Impressionist Enamel Painting on copper, after famed French modernist painter Georges Rouault. This work is from a very limited series of enamel paintings produced after the artist, with examples painted on both copper and steel. Rouault also experimented with enamel painting, and it was a medium he was fond of. This work depicts three of Rouault’s characteristic clowns in the midst of conversation. The colors of this work are vibrant and rich, and this is clearly a masterfully created piece. This work is unsigned, but the backing paper is missing, which may have had more information on this piece. A stamp on the frame reads: Made in Germany. Approximately 7 3/8 inches tall x 7 3/8 inches wide including frame. Acquired from an affluent estate in Pasadena, California. 1871 – Paris, France. 1958 – Paris, France. Figure, genre and still life painting. Georges Henri Rouault (27 May 1871 – 13 February 1958) was a French Fauvist and Expressionist painter, and printmaker in lithography and etching. Rouault was born in Paris into a poor family. His mother encouraged his love for the arts, and in 1885 the fourteen-year-old Rouault embarked on an apprenticeship as a glass painter and restorer, which lasted until 1890. This early experience as a glass painter has been suggested as a likely source of the heavy black contouring and glowing colors, likened to leaded glass, which characterize Rouault’s mature painting style. During his apprenticeship, he also attended evening classes at the School of Fine Arts, and in 1891, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts, the official art school of France. There he studied under Gustave Moreau and became his favorite student. Rouault’s earliest works show a symbolism in the use of colour that probably reflects Moreau’s influence, and when Moreau died in 1898, Rouault was nominated as the curator of the Moreau Museum in Paris. Georges Rouault also met Henri Matisse, Albert Marquet, Henri Manguin, and Charles Camoin. These friendships brought him to the movement of Fauvism, the leader of which was considered to be Matisse. From 1895 on, he took part in major public exhibitions, notably the Salon d’Automne (which he helped to found), where paintings with religious subjects, landscapes and still lifes were shown. In 1905 he exhibited his paintings at the Salon d’Automne with the other Fauvists. While Matisse represented the reflective and rationalized aspects in the group, Rouault embodied a more spontaneous and instinctive style. His use of stark contrasts and emotionality is credited to the influence of Vincent van Gogh. His characterizations of overemphasized grotesque personalities inspired the expressionist painters. In 1907, Rouault commenced a series of paintings dedicated to courts, clowns and prostitutes. These paintings are interpreted as moral and social criticism. He became attracted to Spiritualism and the dramatic existentialism of the philosopher Jacques Maritain, who remained a close friend for the rest of his life. After that, he dedicated himself to religious subjects. Human nature was always the focus of his interest. Rouault said: A tree against the sky possesses the same interest, the same character, the same expression as the figure of a human. At the end of his life he burned 300 of his pictures (estimated to be worth today about more than half a billion francs). His reason for doing this was not profound, as he simply felt he would not live to finish them. [1] Rouault died in Paris in 1958. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”. RARE Large MID CENTURY MODERN BRUTALIST Hammered Copper Enamel Fantoni Bowl
For sale is a gorgeous highly collectible torch-cut large round copper bowl with a smoldering fiery red enamel interior and signed with Fantoni Firenze ITALY stamp on the base. Fantoni is renowned for his ceramic pieces and metalwork, and while we have seen quite a few smaller enameled copper pieces, we have yet to see one this large or this striking. This exquisite piece of art is in beautiful condition. There are no cracks or chips on the enamel surface. The copper base is also in beautiful condition with some areas of patina commensurate with its age and the nature of the metal. Other teachers also contributed to his artistic formation including Libero Andreotti and Bruno Innocenti in sculpture and Gianni Vagnetti in the figure. He graduated in’34 as a’maestro’ of art, and began working as a ceramist. In 1936, after having worked for a few months as the artistic director of a factory in Perugia, he established himself in the stables of Villa Fabbricotti in Florence and established the Fantoni Ceramic studio. Its production of serial and unique pieces had remarkable success at the Florentine Arts and Crafts Exhibit in’37, revealing itself in line with the most recent tendencies, so much so that at the beginning of hostilities his production had already received notable artistic and commercial attention in Italy and abroad. After the war years, when Fantoni was involved in the resistance, in’46 he began the creative and productive fervor that will allow him to enlarge his company, reaching at the beginning of the next decade the impressive size of over fifty collaborators. Among his employees there were many students who, in ceramics and other fields, would become excellent artisans and even famous artists. For this original spirit of modernity, his works entered in private collections and in the most important museums of the world: in the United States his works can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York, the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of Fine Art of Boston, the Currier. Rare copper mirror ball globe floor lamp with cord flex, Tom Dixon style
Gorgeous copper globe floor lamp designed in the same style as the iconic Mirror Ball Floor Lamp designed by British lighting designer Tom Dixon, which sells for several hundred pounds. This is very similar design, though the ball is fixed to the base. The mirror finish reflects the room around it and the shielded bulb throws off subtle mood lighting that is very effective when directed onto a wall. A traditional cord cable completes the mid-century look. It stands about 35cm high and the globe is about 30cm in diamter. This striking floor lamp is used but in perfect aesthetic and functional condition. The item “Rare copper mirror ball globe floor lamp with cord flex, Tom Dixon style” is in sale since Saturday, January 2, 2021. This item is in the category “Home, Furniture & DIY\Lighting\Lamps”. Rare Tall Brutalist Solid Wood & Copper Mid-Century Laurel Table Lamp MCM Table
Turned wood lamp by the Laurel Company. I’ve never seen one like this but the shade is marked Laurel and I recognize the white rectangular harp and cylindrical finial. The finial is copper toned to match the textured metal band around the top of the lamp, the square copper toned base and the splattered shade. I don’t know if the metal on the lamp is real copper. I rotated the lamp while photographing so you could see all sides of it. These are two vertical seams in the wood – one on each side of the lamp. There are some dents and imperfections you may find by looking closely at photos. It works when tested. This is a tall lamp, measuring 50 to the top of the final. Height to the top of the socket is approximately 34 1/2. Height to the top of the wood body is 25 5/8. The width of the square base is 5 7/8. Just for reference, the shade measures 21″ tall x 17″ wide at bottom. PLEASE INQUIRE IF INTERESTED. It is punctured and has some scratches at separation on the side at the top frame band so mailing it may not seem worthwhile. Weight without shade: 10 lb 15 oz. I have successfully mailed hundreds of lamps and will promptly and carefully pack and send. Please feel free to ask questions or request more pictures. Thank you for looking!
