Beautiful table lamp / abat-jour with organic shape diffuser in Cocoon and lacquered metal base, designed probably by Achille and Piergiacomo Castiglioni between the 60s and 70s for LichtStudio Eisenkeil, an Italian company that still produces exclusively for Flos the lamps in Cocoon. The conditions of the lamp are really good in relation to the years and well described in the photos: working; lampshade without holes, cuts or tears; wooden base with perfect lacquering except for an easily restored vertical grain of the wood (see photo). Le condizioni della lampada sono veramente buone in relazione agli anni e ben descritte in foto: funzionante; paralume senza buchi, tagli o strappi; base in legno con laccatura perfetta eccetto una venatura verticale del legno facilmente restauratile (vedi foto). Elementi di raccordo e portalampada invece sono in plastica bianca. Componenti elettriche originali dell’epoca. Rara lampada dalla luce calda e d’atmosfera… Perfetta accanto al letto. Negli anni’60 gli esperimenti di George Nelson basati su strutture a telaio di metallo per lampadari ispirarono Artur Eisenkeil fondatore dell’azienda. Nella creazione dei primi prototipi di paralumi Cocoon, nei quali il telaio in filo d’acciaio bianco/gommato veniva prima modellato e poi spruzzato in Cocoon, una pellicola di plastica polimerica o fibra di vetro filata molto resistente proveniente dagli Stati Uniti. Artur Eisenkeil presentò questi primi prototipi alla Fiera di Milano nel 1959. L’imprenditore e architetto Dino Gavina fu subito entusiasta ed intuisce subito le enormi potenzialità di progettazione di questo materiale. Artur Eisenkeil invitò quindi Dino Gavina, Tobia Scarpa, Pier Giacomo e Achille Castiglioni a Merano per alcuni mesi, per realizzare una serie di luci con il materiale Cocoon nella produzione del Lichtstudio… Da quell’esperienza e da quei designer nacque la società FLOS. Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a rare vintage GEORGE NELSON full-sized bed headboard. It has its two original sliding grasscloth doors with round concave metal pulls that open to reveal concealed storage areas on both sides. Also, the entire top of the headboard flips forward on hinges to reveal an extra storage unit that is quite large in size. This headboard is a very solid piece of furniture that is. While it is meant for a full sized bed, we actually used it in our. Guest room with a queen sized mattress, and it looked super nice as well. 56″ wide x 12″ deep x 30.5 tall. The inside of each of the sliding compartments measures approx. 12″ deep x 26.5″ wide. The hinged storage compartment measures approx. 14″ high x 54.25″ wide x 11 deep. Condition: While not perfect, given its age and use, we’d say it’s in very good condition. There are minor surface scratches here and there, but nothing overly objectionable. We conditioned the wood with a spray, and it conceals them nicely. Also, the bottom of the back wood panel shows some signs of light warping (see photos) – it’s on the reverse side at the bottom, so it isn’t really detectable unless you are looking for it. We are solely mentioning this for accuracy. The two sliding panels function properly on their track, and the hinge mechanism to open the storage compartment also functions properly. All of the round metal caps are still attached to the bottom side of each of the legs (see photo). Photographs are available upon request. Rare vintage mid century Kovacs Design Group battery operated clock, consisting of a brass plated steel cylindrical tower, mounted on a circular base, with a time dial and a synchronized single rotating arm in an acrylic window, encased in the top, crowned with a brass cap. Measures 49″ tall, 4″ in diameter, base is 1/4″ thick and 9″ in diameter. Reminiscent of several Robert Sonneman lamp designs, who worked for Kovacs.
