With Hockaday Associates, New York, 1950. Design by Herbert Matter with research by Harry Bertoia, Charles Niedringhaus and Murray Rothenberg. Tall Octavo (approx 8.5 x 12 inches). Wire binding with decorated thick metallic silver wrappers. 160 black and white illustrations and 123 schematic diagrams. Colour-coded sections in blue, red and yellow. Chairs: featuring designs by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Eero Saarinen, Franco Albini, Bonet Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, Pierre Jeanneret, Donald Knorr, Odelberg Olsen, Florence Knoll, Joseph Frank, Andre Dupre, George Nakashima, Ilmari Tapiovaara, and Elias Svedberg. Tables: Hans Bellman, George Nakashima, Florence Knoll, Abel Sorenson, and Franziska Porges Hosken. Chests, Cabinets, Beds: Florence Knoll, Charles Niedringhaus and Richard Stein. Desks, Offices: Florence Knoll, Knoll Planning Unit. Lamps: Isamu Noguchi and Clay Michie. Textiles: Stig Lindberg, Angelo Testa, Eszter Haraszty, Ulrike Rhomberg among others. Architecture and interiors: Philip Johnson, Marcel Breuer and Florence Knoll and the Knoll Planning Unit. All product descriptions include dimensions. The catalogue is complete. The wrappers are a little worn with some creasing and inevitable light bumping to the corners. Internally the pages are vibrant and clean although at some point the catalogue must have been stored in damp conditions as there is rippling to the pages and some colour bleed through throughout. I have highlighted this in the multiple photographs provided. Please study them closely. In my opinion the faults are not too disturbing and do not detract significantly from what is a truly scarce and much sought after twentieth century design artefact. This has been in my collection for several years and is a somewhat reluctant sale. An opportunity to acquire truly spectacular document of mid-century twentieth century design. Featuring the most wonderful, ingenious colour coded schematic design by Matter, exemplary product photography and the highest production values. Beyond saying that, I will let the pictures speak for themselves. There are many more items in my shop that don’t appear in regular item searches.
