Mid Century lamp by Gerald Thurston for Lightolier. The “gooseneck” lamp was the staple of desks and dens throughout the mid century period. The ability to place light precisely where it was wanted held great appeal and was considered one of the great lighting breakthroughs of the industrial 20th century. Has some typical wear to shade and enameled surfaces. Walnut switch on the top of the shade turns on the lamp. This would look perfect in a NY Penthouse, Malibu Estate, or UK summer home! For Sale Rare Vintage Mid Century Gerald Thurston for Lightolier Anywhere Lamp. I don’t say RARE very often. Just check out my listings. This is an exception. I have examples all over my house. Designed by Gerald Thurston in 1955, so a LONG TIME AGO. It is called an Anywhere lamp as you can put it almost, well, ANYWHERE. Hanging on a wall, as a table lamp, it is completely up to you. Thurston, what a clever fella. In excellent vintage shape but does not have the original shade. It once had a slatted, woven shade. The one I have works great but isn’t original. I have only seen 2 other examples of this and both had cracked/discolored plastic diffusers. This one is EXCELLENT. Other than that in really great shape. The switch works great. No electrical or mechanical issues. A rare and wonderful item, you will love it. DIMENSIONS – all approx. 19 with the shade in a normal position. Shade itself is 17 across. A hard to find counter balance swag lamp from Lightolier, probably designed by Gerald Thurston in the early 1950s. The lamp is all orignal except for a new cord, plug, socket insulator and socket enclosure insulator. The switch mechanism is original and can use a 3 – way bulb. The lamp stir has a partial Lightolier sticker on the inside of the shade. The lamp shade is approximately 15 inches wide and 4 inches tall, the greatest difference from wall is 20 2/4 inches, approximately 10 feet of black nylon wrapped cord with a black vintage inspired plug. THE LAMP IS PRESENTED FOR SALE “AS IS” AND IS NOT RETURNABLE OR REFUNDABLE. THIS IS A PRE-OWNED ITEM, IT IS NOT “NEW” OR “MINT”. Ultra Rare 1950s Mid Century Modern LIGHTOLIER ATOMIC TRIPOD BRASS LAMP GERALD THURSTON RARE. It measures 26″ High and the Shade is 16″ Diameter. It’s all original (including, shade and sockets and wiring) and works well – 3 light switch option – only 1 bulb, only 2 or all 3 – as demonstrated on photos. However, rewiring is strongly recommended. Shade shows wear – see close up photos. The diffuser has burns from light bulbs (from someone placing it upside down in the past) – photo 9. Lumia Lightolier kinetic light sculpture Created by Earl Reiback, this is a rare Mid-century modern kinetic light sculpture, manufactured in Japan sometime around 1970. It displays a hypnotic / psychedelic spectrum of colors that slowly move and change patterns somewhat like the Northern lights. It is housed in and 11.5″ square and 7″ deep, wood finish laminated box, with an opaque white plastic’display’ screen. Box is in great condition, with light wear, one corner has more wear (see pictures). This particular unit, and in most others you see, the colors looked very orangey. On inspection of the inside, it was noted that the design leaves no real venting for the vintage lightbulb, that essentially creates an oven – or in my opinion a firetrap. As a result, the blue gel / lens closest to the bulb center (rectangle piece of blue plastic) was melted in half removing the blue from the mix. This makes the red and yellow lenses more prominent. Also, the mylar’pinwheel’ assembly that spins and reflects the light was deformed and wilted from the heat. I painstakingly removed it, flattened it out, created a new pattern based as close as possible to the original, and cut a new pinwheel from a mirror-finish mylar and installed it. Lastly, I installed an LED bulb which is MUCH cooler read: safer! Rare and dramatic, Lightolier twin desk lamp from the 1960’s. Very’Danish Modern’ in feel, two adjustable cones in the manner of jet engines, mounted on brass stems and a black metal base. Roughly 17 inches tall, and 14 inches wide depending on placement of shades. The metal cones have a satin brass finish, with black metal elevated rings much like the cowls of a jet engine. The brass stems are stationary, and the cones pivot and hold their position. A wonderfully scarce example of Space Age Design. Minor scuffs and shows age appropriate usage. Some black enamel loss on metal base. 1 RARITY AND BEAUTY. Will never be produced again and I appreciate their rarity. I never sell “Frankenstein” lamps odd pieces slapped together, slathered in new paint (oddly enough usually fire engine red) and passed off as having an exotic (usually Italian, or Gino Sarfatti) origin.
