This beautifully shaped and brilliantly colored vase was created in 1978, during Andrew Magdanz’s peak period of individually conceived, executed, and signed works. The vase is 7″ tall and 5″ in diameter, with thick walls of green glass infused with swirls of multi-colored glass. Nationally known not only for his elegant works in glass, but also for his activism in promoting environmentally sound practices and encouraging collaboration among glass artists, Andrew Magdanz is a major figure in the late 20th century studio art glass movement through the present. He has taught at the Pilchuck Glass School, the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and the Penland School for Crafts. His works appear in numerous private and public collections around the world, including the Corning Museum of Glass, the Hokkaido Museum in Japan, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. One of the photos shows the signature on the bottom of the piece. The date (1978) appears next to the signature on the vase, although it does not show in the photo.
