Vintage MCM Paul McCobb #1512 Credenza Cabinet with Rare Matching #1540 Bench
For sale, a nice modular credenza cabinet with matching bench platform. Designed by Paul McCobb for the Planner Collection of the “Winchendon” line of functional furniture. Credenza Cabinet #1512 and rare Bench Platform #1540 are made of solid maple wood. Cabinet dimensions are approximately 24″ inches high by 24″ inches wide and is 18 inches deep. Its top, bottom and side walls are a solid 5/8 inches thick and has a plywood back. Inside of top shelf dimensions are 22.5″ by 16.25″ and is 7 high. Bottom storage area is 22.5″ by 16.25″ and 14.5 high. Heavy slate-fiber sliding doors are covered in McCobb’s textured grass cloth fabric that’s durable and easy to clean. Doors adorned with shiny round aluminum pulls in excellent condition. Doors can easily be removed by lifting them up then pulling out at bottom. Cabinet is a perfect fit to a matching 24″ by 18″ by 10 inch high, splayed leg Bench Platform #1540. That bench platform is quite rare and hard to find. Total height of both once stacked is 34 inches. There is a repair to the inside of one slate-fiber door. It’s a nice and solid fix and there are no. Visible signs of that repair to front of door (see photo #10). Use cabinet bottom to store up to 110 record albums comfortably. Top shelf good for audio equipment, books or magazines. Sturdy combination would also make an excellent tv stand. Total weight of credenza and stand is 85 pounds. McCobb’s minimalist Planner Design is classic Modern. His furniture is sought after by collectors for its quality, design and functionality. Will be carefully packed and sent in three large boxes (cabinet, bench and doors). Beautiful Rare Find Montiverdi Young Mcm file cabinet. It’s in great shape for the age. The top has not many deep scratches, looks great. There is some scratching and rub marks on the sides towards the bottom. Very nice condition for the age. It was well cared for. Do not have keys to lock drawers on the side and one of the levelers is broken at bottom. Meaning you set it all up and send company to pick it up. They take care of everything. This is a extremely rare and unique collection of Pepe Mendoza door and cabinet pulls. The collection includes a total of 57 items ranging from feathered serpent god door pulls, maya codex, oval knobs, and two different rectangle pulls. These are all from one house built in the 1960s. The home was one of several movie locations for, Tiger by the Tail, filmed in New Mexico. Several Pepe Mendoza door pulls can be seen in different movie scenesOne at front gate entrance to pool sidewalk, another at front door entrance at night, two more at beginning of hallway scene to opening the front door, and several during kitchen scene. Very nostalgic to see these vintage items captured during that moment and time. This collection is large and very rare to have so many pieces listed at once. His work is characterized by a cloisonné-type/enamel technique and designs were mostly based upon pre-Columbian motifs which he modernized to conform Mexican and international tastes. Many modernists designers used Pepe Mendoza´s hardware to embellish their furniture pieces during the 1950s and 1960s. Beware of fakes and copycats, look for the Mendoza foundry mark.
