A bit of Hutschenreuther history: At the start of the 19th century, a young porcelain painter by the name of Carl Magnus Hutschenreuther from Thuringia went in search of fame and fortune, which he eventually found in north east Bavaria. The young Hutschenreuther had discovered “white gold” (or kaolin) for the production of porcelain, and in 1814 he founded the first modern and private porcelain factory in Bavaria. His aim was to manufacture porcelain’second to none’ for quality and excellence in Germany. Under the management of his son, a second porcelain factory was founded in 1857 in the neighboring town of Selb. More than one hundred years later, in 1969, both companies combined to form Hutschenreuther AG, Selb. By this time, the Hutschenreuther name was already well known especially among connoisseurs and lovers of fine porcelain. Today Hutschenreuther is one of the most important porcelain brands in the world. Modern production technology, combined with traditional craftsmanship, as well as creativity and competence in creation, quality and practicality have all been decisive factors in the success of the brand. In August 1st 2000 the “Lion Brand” Hutschenreuther joined the Rosenthal Group. Two famous companies from Upper Franconia were united under one management and took over the leading position in the German market for high quality porcelain.
