This distinctive lamp stands 65.5 inches tall and has a base with a diameter of 11 inches. It is made of a variety of materials. The circular base is brass. The tube body is some sort of brushed steel with a coating of gold lacquer over it (a common manufacturing practice). This gold lacquer has been scratched away in a few locations and I have provided a few close up pictures to show those areas. This can be fixed fairly easily in the hands of an experienced technician, but it’s not terribly obvious when you’re standing back and looking at the lamp in its entirety. You need to be fairly close to the lamp to see them. There is a small pinhole dent in the tube that is positioned toward the top. Please review the pictures carefully for further details regarding condition, but on the whole I would say this lamp in very good vintage condition. The diffuser is made of hand blown glass. It drops into the tube and is held in place by threading the ball switch through a hole in the glass. There are no cracks or notable chips in the outer body of the glass. There is a “roughness” to the bottom of the diffuser where it’s completely hidden and at the hole that the ball switch is resting against the glass. It has a three-way switch that offers the option of having three different degrees of illumination provided a proper three-way bulb is inserted into the socket. I have this lamp listed as “rare” in the title simply because I have never seen another one on the internet or in an antique store. I don’t know to what degree this is true and I welcome any other examples or input regarding the origin of this lamp. Based on certain construction and style details I would speculate that this lamp is from the late 60s or early 70s. Vintage Opticians Eye Test Light, Lamp. A delightful opticians eye test chart, sourced from a British Military Medical Department. Great condition with working lights. This was built specifically for optometrists working in the British Army in the mid to latter part of the 20th century, circa 1950s-1980s, aka the Cold War period. This piece of essential kit for an optician, is one that most of us will be familiar with Close one eye and read the top line etc. This would create a great statement piece for a feature or mood light in your home, bar or shop. Standing at approximately 80cm tall and with a different feature on each four sides, the top section would have rotated on its axis with a simple push of a button. This item does not include the remote so I cannot test the motor function etc, it does spin around with a g entle p ush though. Currently this item (the lights) can turn on and off with no issues, I will include the multiple bulbs inside the main box and the red and green bulbs in the lower box. They are all bayonet and fairly easy to access if needed. Simply plugging the box in will light it up, an in-line foot switch can easily be added. Made in a perspex/acrylic shell with metal surrounds, the light box is quite weighty at the bottom and lighter at the top. When illuminated in a darker area, the warm glow is quite relaxing and pretty cool too (as pictured). We are offering this piece in as found condition, therefore there is some natural wear and tear. Although structurally great, there are some surface scars and abrasions and some paint chipping in areas (very little). They do not however distract from the overall look and feel. Please do study the photos to help with your analysis as it would be hard to highlight all imperfections. Rare brass globe floor lamp designed by Frank Ligtelijn for Raak c1960’s. Smoked glass globe shade floats atop the base, pivoting for directional light, with telescoping adjustable height stem, and heavy cast metal three-star base. These are typically seen in chrome, the brass model is quite rare, and believed to be an earlier production. In very good to excellent condition for age. Brass shows wear to the stem from raising and lowering. Expected patina and age related wear. It is unusual – I’ve never seen this exact lamp before, with the continuous piece of wood that encircles the shade. It has a center pull for turning on and off. Since I’ve never seen another like it, I’ll call it RARE. Ready for your collection! I just might take it!
