For sale we have this beautiful and clean example of a rare mid-century modern Heywood Wakefield desk/chest with its ORIGINAL wheat color finish. It is date stamped 1952 on the rear (see photos) and also stamped Heywood Wakefield inside the drawer (see photo). This piece can be found in the Heywood Wakefield Catalogue and was produced between 1952 and 1954. The drop leaf front looks like a 4th drawer when closed. The design is not only aesthetically pleasing but, also highly functional. It could find a home in a. It measures 30″ wide x 13″ deep x 42 high. As with much of the Heywood Wakefield line, this desk/ chest is made of solid birch and the drawers are all dovetail construction. The original wheat finish is in overall excellent condition (including inside the desk portion and on the legs of the piece) without any stains, cigarette burns, perfume rings or large areas of wear. Remarkable condition given its age. There are some minor light surface scratches/wear commensurate with age and usage including 2 small scratches on the front (see the last 2 close-up photos). These 2 small scratches can be oiled which renders them barely visible but, we wanted any purchaser to see them prior to any treatment.
