Pair of 1970s, Mid Century Modern bamboo and rattan armchairs. Unique and rare design, with elements of Italian (Franco Albini) as well as Ficks Reed design to the overall appearance and bent wood (bamboo) structure. Incredibly sound and well made. The chairs are tall back (52) with original, gold velvet, upholstered backs. The velvet is clean and in very nice condition. It has a matching welt trim. The arms have brass hand rests. The seats are quite unique. The original, multicolored seat cushions are removable and reversible. The seat supports are rare. Rather than being rattan, as most of these chairs are, this pair has very strong, spring and woven metal supports. The pair are in very nice, original condition. There are slight scuffs and surface scratches in a few areas. There is slight wear to the rattan “ties”. The fabric backs and seat cushions are in very nice condition. They are not stained and there are no rips or tears. In general, very nice condition. Chairs are 52 tall. They are 28 wide at the widest sections of the arms. They are 26 deep. Seat height is 17″, width is 25″ and seat depth is 20.

Up for sale is a beautiful and rare R&Y Augousti (PHILIPPINES) inlaid bamboo art vase measuring 20 inches tall and about 8+ inches at its widest. Clearly stamped on the bottom “R&Y Augousti ” Philippines and is ready to enter any collection or modern homes design. There are some bamboo circles. In various colors to accent the vase This is a rare modern designer vase so if you have any questions please feel free to ask them prior to purchasing. This vase is in very good vintage condition with a small size blemish in one of the bamboo rings. It is pictured in the picture # 10. More pictures upon request. I have in inluded a story of the creators of this art work if you care to read. R&Y Augousti was founded in 1989 by husband-wife duo Ria & Yiouri Augousti. Their artistic backgrounds brought them together as innovators in their field by reviving the artisanal techniques of shagreen and other exotic materials that were predominant in the Art Deco period of the 1930s. Through their mix of vintage and contemporary design their furniture and home accessories brand were met with worldwide praise. From a debut collection for the luxurious Hotel Crillon in Paris, to exclusive collections for luxury stores like Barneys New York & Bergdorf Goodman, they finally opened their flagship store on the famous Rue Du Bac in 7th arrondissement of Paris, France. From this they began to work closely with worldwide famous interior designers, architects and celebrities to create custom pieces for their homes and projects all within keeping to the Augousti universe. Although shagreen is their signature DNA, R&Y Augousti are known as pioneers of pattern mixes of exotic materials of shagreen, shell, parchment, eel-skin, semi-precious stones, snakeskins and metal. Their stunning patterns are identifiable by their worldwide clientele. Continuing and honoring the heritage of Augousti, their daughter recently opened a showroom in New York called KIFU PARIS, that carries the R&Y Augousti collection, her fiancée’s sculptural candle collection- Patrick Coard Paris-, and her own furniture and home accessories.

Rare bamboo flatware designed in the early 1950s by Danish designer Kay Bojesen in bamboo & stainless steel, set of 9 pcs. This pattern was available in 1955 (see advert) and is a rare style to find in the market today. Very chic, very elegant, very modern. Kay Bojeson is widely known for teal wooden monkeys and dolls, but her flatware designs and product designs were wide and varied. Marked Denmark, Universal Steel Co. I have lived in NYC for 30 years-since the late 80s-and have been in and around high fashion and luxury retail for decades. Through the years I found that “sourcing” items for specific events, photo shoots, and interior design projects was a valuable skill in a city that produces images, events, and interiors that influence how style is seen throughout the world. I started my career in New York City in the late 1980s dressing display windows at Henri Bendel & the elegant Bergdorf Goodman on Fifth Avenue in the glory days of real story-telling windows. It was there that I learned the art of styling designer clothing & creating an aspirational & romantic mood with merchandise that helps build a relationship with the clothes we wear, and the emotion that people have with properly presented merchandise. I had access to the finest luxury designer clothing like Claude Montana, Pauline Trigere, Coco, Mr Beene and others, and learned about expert seam construction, the feel of good fabrics, the details that matter, and the high tech fabrics that are constantly innovating the marketplace. It was also a time (the 80s) when the shift in the social food chain began to change, a time when the Ladies Who Lunch began to be replaced by a new moneyed group who changed the way retail was conducted, and I always longed for the days when shopping was an event, a treat, and “madame” was served champagne in dressing rooms and the clothes were not thrown on rounder racks in discount departments. My mother also wore lots of Bonnie Cashin in the 1960s and 1970s so I was aware of the modern minimalists, and sought them out for her when I found them. Since I’m shopping constantly, and love fancy estate sales and sample sales, I scour them regularly and with great skill; the result is an online shop that I consider a finely curated collection of vintage clothing, home accessories, & mid century odds and ends from high end homes in the New York City area.
