Rare 1949 1st Gen RAR Eames Herman Miller Zenith Rope Edge Rocking Shell Chair. First year chair with ultra-rare base which was discontinued early in the first year production. The low front bars which crossed to the back caused a hazard and people were getting their heels caught in the them. This chair has the original structural and aesthetic design envisioned by the Eames’ and few exist today. One birch runner has had both the front and back tips re-glued at some time in the past {please see image #11 & #12} but are stable. Oversized puck mounts are good and stable. Steel base has one mounting flange weld separated from base frame {please see image #17}, otherwise good. Shell is good with no chips or cracks and minor wear/discoloration consistent with age/use.
