Amazing example of the mid century Danish modern movement. This rocking chair was designed in the late 50s in the style of Fredrik Kayser who did a very similar version for the Norwegian furniture maker Vatne Mobler. That version has brass accents which this lacks. Many dealers online have attributed this version to Kayser as well but I offer no guarantees at this point if he is the designer or someone else is. Apparently made of dark afromosia wood (or similar) with the seats and back in what I believe is the original Danish cord (at least the back), this chair is as comfortable as it is visually stunning. It is in very good vintage condition but not mint. It did seem to have suffered an accident earlier in life and there is a split in the wood under and at the end of one of the arms. There is a small amount of wood loss visible on the side and what appears to be some glue residue. It is still very structurally sound and not very noticeable on casual observance due to the dark wood. Other than that, there are a few scuffs, dings and occasional scratches to be expected with use and age. The underside of the runners show use but not abuse. The cord is in excellent condition with no breaks. It seems uniformly darker to me on the back than the seat so it is possible the seat was replaced at some point and simply hasn’t achieved the same age patina as the back. No way for me to say with certainty. Overall the chair looks stunning (in my opinion) and will turn heads in your home. They just don’t make them like this anymore! It measures approximately 39.5″ high x 36″ deep x 16.50 seat height. Please let me know in advance if you would like to explore that option. There are reasonable shippers in the northeast corridor.
