Rare Venini Italian Murano Art Glass Carlo Scarpa / Signed Mid-Century Modern
Pulegoso Technique Circa 1940’s Fine and rare hand-blown Italian art glass bowl – vase, designed by Carlo Scarpa for Venini. Murano, Italy – Circa 1940’s. The bottom with the acid-etched signature: VENINI MURANO / MADE IN ITALY This vase was made in the pulegoso technique, hand-blown in a light green transparent glass, with an applied foot. The glass is of medium thickness and medium to heavy weight. The pulegoso technique shows thousands of tiny bubbles of different sizes throughout and creates a lightly pebbled texture. The bubbles reflect and shimmer in the light! This piece is a fine example of pulegoso (without somerso) and a good example of Carlo Scarpa’s beautiful designs in the modern style. DIAMETER : 5 1/4 WEIGHT : 1 lb. CONDITION : Excellent condition as shown in the photographs. NOTES / REFERENCES : Carlo Scarpa (1906 – 1978) was an Italian architect, influenced by the materials, landscape, and the history of Venetian culture, and Japan. [1] Scarpa translated his interests in history, regionalism, invention, and the techniques of the artist and craftsman into ingenious glass and furniture design. He designed glass for the Italian glassworks Venini, on the Island of Murano, from 1932 to 1947. This piece will be a quality addition to any collection of Italian Art Glass and will display beautifully in any decor: Classical, Neo-Classical, French Provincial, Empire, Continental, Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, Austrian Secessionist, Art Deco, Mid Century Modern, Eames Era, Shabby Chic, or Contemporary. Serious offers are always welcome. I always respond quickly! This object comes from a smoke-free, pet-free environment.
