He let me know that his father lived in Cleveland OH, but went to New York City and Chicago to find furnishings and lamps for his home in the 1950’s. Note: This lamp is attributed to Gerald Thurston’s designs for Stiffel lamp co. Specific to this lamp is the custom shade that the original owner had commissioned for this lamp. From what I’ve been told by the original owner’s son, his father didn’t like the original shade offered and wanted a more “natural” look to the shade, so he had this one made. It features images of wheat, butterflies and scattered dried grass fronds. This lamp has a very unique switch to turn on the 3 light bulbs that the lamp takes. It was designed so that all 3 light-bulbs can be a 3-way bulb with varying degrees of brightness. It’s a very unique switch designed to really customize the brightness to the user! In full disclosure this lamp is not completely in it’s original condition. The owner let me know that he decided to spray-paint the original brass base with black spray-paint in the 1990’s to make it look new again. He didn’t realize that this would affect the vintage value. Is removable & it could be restored for those who are purists when it comes to these lamps. Note too, that on the black spray paint on the lamp, there are a few chips, exposing the original bright brass underneath. There’s also a few chips of the paint on the star-base along the edges of the base armature. Typically, this lamp in its orig. Condition would have been their natural brass color on the base with a white shade and the metal grid cover at the top would also be white. You can see in the pictures that the base is now black and the grid is black on the top facing the ceiling. However, the original white paint is still on the underside of the grid, so if you’re going to have it restored, you have the original color there that you can use as a guide. Paul Evans is most noted for his cityscape designs of the mid 70s which became iconic examples of the seventies deco-revival. But just prior to this period he created some very elegant and rich mid century lamps that already hint at the deco aesthetic with their clean lines, statuesque quality and monumental size. This lamp is a work of art. The quality in the thin sheets of maple veneer fit together to create a consistent grain flow around the lamp is simply amazing. It harks to the fitment of veneers in Rolls Royce motorcars and shows an attention to detail and a skill of craftsmanship that just doesn’t exist anymore. The design is timeless. It looks as contemporary today as it did nearly half a century ago! The verdigris on the base is now perfect after this time period and this lamp manages to convey that it is a monument that has seen the passage of many decades – yet is ageless! Lamp is in superb condition. The wood has only very slight wear. The metal pieces show tarnish and the base shows verdigris and the coloration that only decades can create. All original electrics work perfectly. This gorgeous lamp will complement any distinguished interior, whether it be a NY penthouse, case study home, California mansion or atomic ranch. AUTHENTIC SUPER RARE STIFFEL TABLE LAMP CERAMIC/BRASS MID CENTURY MODERN WOW?? . 32 in tall excellent condition, footed base, great crackle purple surface could not find one with the same form but did find some with the same color and surface on first dibs and cherished very heavy thick brass and pottery, If anybody knows a little more about this lamp please message me and let me know it certainly is a show stopper of a man in my opinion.

Up for sale is a rare Raymond Loewy for Stiffel Mid Century Modern MCM Atomic Futura tension pole 4 light lamp. Features silver drilled aluminum cones with a brass and gold pole. Each lamp has a separate push button switch for full lighting control. Total height is 106-1/2″ and adjusts down to 96″ (8′) with spring loaded tension bar. Cones measure approximately 13-1/2″ long X 3″ wide. Lamp is in good condition with light wear. Tension base top and tension base bottom have a split (pictured) but is still fully functional. Early Vintage Raymond Lowey Stiffel Lamp. Dimensions – 42″ tall x 10.5″ cone shades x 4.5 diameter shade. T wo l arge cone shade s with original diffusers. Each shade swivels and tilts. It has a 4 way switch located on the base. The lamp is in good original condition. There are no dings or damage. Light wear to the base and shade. There is one diffuser that has a chip on the edge. This is one of their best designs in my opinion very cool details switch is functional plug works and all lights turn on it is a three way switch. The lamp does have where which is normal for how old this is. The brass center is tarnished could be cleaned but still displays very well. The cones overall look really great with the gold details the only thing that is missing is the diffusers witched with time you could find replacements I just face the lights upward and it still looks really great. The bottom has a That goes on the floor so as you can see from the 11th photo it might look a little weird but once you display this lamp that part is hidden. This lamp is pretty tall it measures, about 110 I have lived in a number of apartments especially older ones in Chicago where the ceilings are tall and this thing always worked.
