LARGE AND OUTSTANDING VINTAGE MODERN ABSTRACT METAL WALL SCULPTURE BY RENOWNED LOS ANGELES SCULPTOR C JERE. THIS WORK DEPICTS A FASCINATING 3D DISCS COMPOSITION COMPRISED OF BRASS RODS. THE REAR HAS THREE HOOKS DESIGNED FOR MULTIPLE CONFIGURATIONS. THE BRASS HAS A NICE PATINA FROM OLD AGE, AS SHOWN. IT DOES NOT DETRACT FROM ITS BEAUTY IN ANY WAY. IT IS SIGNED AND DATED BY C JERE. DIMENSIONS: 45″ H x 42″ W. Known for: Collaborative sculpture, Artisan House-even signed pieces are studio works. Name variants: C Jere, Jerry collaboration record Fels, Curtis Freiler, Curtis collaboration record Freiler, A Curtis Jere. Jeré is a metalwork artist of wall sculptures and household accessories. Jeré works are made and marketed by the corporation Artisan House. Curtis Jere is a compound nom-de-plume of artists Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels. The two founders combined pieces of their own names to create the C. Modernism magazine interviewed Jerry Fels shortly before his death in October 2008. According to the resulting article in the Spring 2007 issue of Modernism magazine page 116, the company was founded in 1963 by Fels and his brother-in-law Curtis (Kurt) Freiler. Freiler was the production chief and Fels was head of design. Their goal was to produce “gallery-quality art for the masses”. Artisan House sculptures are made in California. Writer Mitchell Owens wrote a two page article on the history of C. Jere for the November 2010 issue of Elle Decor. In it he states that “Today those pieces are attracting the admiration of leading dealers in vintage chic”. He goes on to say that after launching in 1964 Jere sculptures were “distributed by Raymor, a cutting edge studio in New York City, and retailed at Gump’s in San Francisco and other high quality emporiums”. He also reported that Under Freiler’s meticulous direction, the workers – a number of whom were minorities or handicapped – sheared, crimped, torched, and welded brass, copper, and other metals before coating them with luminous patinas. Using the copyrighted signature of’C. Jere’, Curtis Jere, created abstract home decorating accessories that have come to be regarded as art objects. Included are wall sculptures, mirrors, andirons, portrait busts, rugs, furniture and hanging fixtures, all with “accentuating shapes, colors and textures” in copper, steel, brass, bronze and other mixed media. Jeré works range from representational to highly abstract. Some of the older techniques, such as enameling, using resin, and the bronzes, haven’t been used in decades. These objects were marketed by Jere and his partner, Jerry Fels through their business entity, Artisan House. Artisan House was very secretive about who Curtis Jere was, or if he even existed. Elle Decor – November 2010, 2 page article by Mitchell Owens traces the history of C. Vintage Rare Hammered Metal Ikea Lamp Mid Century Modern Scandinavian Design. This is an outstandingly rare, vintage Ikea table lamp. Introduced in 1996, the base is hammered brass finished in tin chrome with etched rings around it. The shade attachment is a standard Ikea attachment so it will be easy to fit a shade to it. The style is representative of the Scandinavian design aesthetic. The design is likely a tribute to the art deco sculptural vases of Swedish designer Sylvia Stave for the CG Hallberg firm. The lamp is in good working order. It stands at about 10.5 inches tall at the top of the fixture and is approximately 7.3 inches in diameter. Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a seldom seen atomic tripod lamp designed by Ferris-Shacknove. Circa’50 /’60s. The lamp base is constructed of iron with small wooden atomic ball feet. The shade is constructed of textured cotton over paper. We have included an advertisement from an old Furniture Forum catalog for reference (see photo). It’s a stylish atomic lamp that’ll look fantastic in any mid century modern setting! With the shade attached, the lamp stands approx. The shade alone measures approx. 7″ tall x 16″ in diameter. The distance from the bottom of the base to the light socket measures approx. The distance between each of the atomic ball feet measures approx. Condition: Overall, give its age, we’d say the lamp is in very good condition. Aside from the light bulb socket being a little loose and needing some tightening, the base is free from having any issues. It is structurally solid, and displays very nicely. The shade is original to the lamp. It has some minor faint areas of discoloration (possibly old moisture marks or something of that nature). We have not attempted to clean the shade in any manner, so we are uncertain as to whether or not they’ll come out. The shade can easily be turned to have those marks facing the back (see photos). The electrical wiring looks to be original to the lamp, and it is in good condition – no frays, splits, exposed or brittle wires. The lamp is in fully-functioning, working condition. As with all vintage lighting, we always strongly recommend having a licensed electrician inspect the wiring prior to long-term use. The lamp is b. All sales are final. Marcello Fantoni was an Italian designer and producer born in 1915 Florence, Italy and passed away in 2011. In 1927, Fantoni started his apprentice at the Institute of Art at Porta Romana, and received his masters in 1934. Fantoni opened soon his own ceramic studio, where he designed and produced unique pieces. His works were displayed in private collections and in the most important museum of the world. This lamp is in excellent vintage operational condition. After an exhaustive internet search, we were unable to find another example of this lamp. Apparently the mosaic tile tables usually didn’t survive the stresses of time. The mosaic tile pattern on the adjustable table is in perfect condition. The lamp retains all of it’s original components, except for electrical. The electrical components have been refurbished to bring the lamp into modern UL code compliance. This lamp is absolutely stunning and would be the highlight of any room that it is placed in. Any Mid Century Modern collector will be extremely pleased to add this to their collection.
