Unique Abstract Design Resembles Printed Circuit Boards. Measures approximately 9 1/4″ Tall X 2 3/8″ X 2 3/8 and is in Excellent Vintage Condition with the usual signs of age and wear with no chips, scratches, cracks, crazing or repairs. In addition to your Modern or Contemporary Setting, this Rare and Unique Vase would be a Wonderful Addition to any Atomic, Danish Modern, Paul Evans, Curtis Jere, Mid Century, Modernist or Eames Décor. ALL SALES ARE FINAL unless an item is grossly misrepresented. I sell mostly VINTAGE items, thus they are USED and should be expected as such. The occasional tiny air bubble or faint scratch consistent with the manufacturing and history of the piece, but nothing that detracts from its display appeal. The glass retains a lustrous satin sheen and the swirled color pattern looks striking from every angle. Please examine all photos provided to truly appreciate the craftsmanship and to see the beautiful color variations. Smith swung vase has been well cared for and is clean, sturdy, and display-ready. Experience a stunning piece of mid-century art glass history with this vintage L. Smith 21-inch “Lilac” swung vase. Produced for one year only in 1961, this vase is exceptionally rare and highly sought after by collectors?? . Smith Glass Company (an American glassmaker founded in 1907?) introduced the Lilac color as a follow-up to their successful Bittersweet line in 1960? . The result was a gorgeous pale lavender-purple glass lightly swirled with milky white, giving it a unique slag glass appearance? . In certain areas – especially around the rim – the purple tone deepens to a rich amethyst, creating beautiful contrasting swirls of light and dark purple throughout the vase. This particular example is the paneled variant (pattern #0202) of the swung vase, featuring twelve smooth vertical panels around its body? . Its form flaunts curvy “hips” rising from a slender base and an asymmetrical, free-formed rim that was created by literally “swung” glass techniques in the factory. Standing at an impressive 21 inches tall, it commands attention as a statement floor vase or centerpiece. The opaque lilac color is consistent through the main body, with whispery white and violet streaks that highlight the paneled texture and emphasize the vase’s Mid-Century Modern (MCM) charm. Rare and huge 21 tall studio pottery floor vase made in Germany by Carstens Tonnieshof, 6000-50. Superb textured and speckled Brutalist basketweave pattern in charcoal black and white, with chocolate brown interior – perhaps the work of Gerda Heuckeroth. Measures 21″ tall, 12″ in width at its widest, 7.25″ in diameter at base, 7.5″ in diameter at mouth. In fine condition, free of cracks or chips.

The matte speckled brown body has a classic yet modern form with an upper rim having a foamy milk effect with a high glaze. The pot is signed L. Rubenstein and is dated 1959. It measures about 3 3/4 inches high and about 4 1/2 inches wide. The vase is in excellent condition. See photos as they are part of the description. Bio;Born in Rochester in 1918, and a Cum Laude graduate of New York’s Alfred University, Mr. Rubenstein began his professional career in the Chicago world of advertising and design. As Corporate Creative Director for Metromedia, Inc. He served as curator of the extensive art holdings of John Werner Kluge, Chairman of the media conglomerate. At retirement, Leonard Rubenstein quickly achieved national and international recognition as a ceramicist. Two of his high-fired porcelain bowls are included in the permanent collection of the Renwick Gallery of The Smithsonian; two in the Ross C. Purdy Museum’s Permanent Collection and Best of Show at the American Ceramic Society’s Southern California Section, Annual Juried President’s Show, 2003. Leonard Rubenstein served as President of the Art Directors Club of Chicago; as Creator of Concept for the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition “Images of China: East and West;” and, among his many additional honors, received accolades for his one-man show of painting, pottery sculpture, and photography at the California Museum of Science and Industry.
