Rare solid brass lily lamp by Tower Brass. This lamp has exceptional mid century style and quality. It measures approximately 15-1/2″ tall 7 ” wide and 8 deep. Without the bulbs inserted. It is in very good vintage condition with no pitting. However one leaf has a very slight bend. The wiring is original. Unusual solid brass mid century American made lamp, reminiscent of Sputnik lamps or Ystad candles holders.

This mid-century modern chrome wall lamp is a rare and unique find from the 1970s. It features four lights and a rectangular design, measuring 9 inches in length, 14 inches in width, and 23 1/2 inches in height. The lamp is corded electric and has a voltage of 120V. In addition to its stunning design, this lamp has several features that make it a convenient and practical addition to any room. With a swing arm, it can be adjusted to provide the perfect amount of light. It is also portable and easy to install, whether you choose to wall mount. The clear cord color and silver chrome finish complete the sleek look of this mid-century modern piece. The pieces shows some tears and wears and signs of age and use but nothing big or noticeable. What you see in pictures are what you get. You must keep’ box and packing stuff in case you have any complaints.

He let me know that his father lived in Cleveland OH, but went to New York City and Chicago to find furnishings and lamps for his home in the 1950’s. Note: This lamp is attributed to Gerald Thurston’s designs for Stiffel lamp co. Specific to this lamp is the custom shade that the original owner had commissioned for this lamp. From what I’ve been told by the original owner’s son, his father didn’t like the original shade offered and wanted a more “natural” look to the shade, so he had this one made. It features images of wheat, butterflies and scattered dried grass fronds. This lamp has a very unique switch to turn on the 3 light bulbs that the lamp takes. It was designed so that all 3 light-bulbs can be a 3-way bulb with varying degrees of brightness. It’s a very unique switch designed to really customize the brightness to the user! In full disclosure this lamp is not completely in it’s original condition. The owner let me know that he decided to spray-paint the original brass base with black spray-paint in the 1990’s to make it look new again. He didn’t realize that this would affect the vintage value. Is removable & it could be restored for those who are purists when it comes to these lamps. Note too, that on the black spray paint on the lamp, there are a few chips, exposing the original bright brass underneath. There’s also a few chips of the paint on the star-base along the edges of the base armature. Typically, this lamp in its orig. Condition would have been their natural brass color on the base with a white shade and the metal grid cover at the top would also be white. You can see in the pictures that the base is now black and the grid is black on the top facing the ceiling. However, the original white paint is still on the underside of the grid, so if you’re going to have it restored, you have the original color there that you can use as a guide. GALAXY II SILKSCREEN BY MCCONNELL. Here is a Fantastic Mid-century silkscreen created by American artist James McConnell. It has a modernist abstract style and a bold color palette of reds, yellows, blues, oranges and blacks. The art is pencil titled “Galaxy II”, pencil signed “McConnell” by the artist and dated’55. This piece depicts an abstract scene with numerous overlapping shapes, lines and colors. This piece was found along with a collection of other McConnell prints in a local storage unit in Michigan. This bold graphic print, done on cream heavy weight paper would look awesome in any vintage, mid century or even modern decor. This piece is striking in person! Born in Chicago, Illinois, James Houston McConnell was a lithographer, screenprinter, and a painter. He studied at Denison University, the State University of Iowa, and with Grant Wood, Jean Charlot, Fletcher Martin and Emil Ganso. He taught at Michigan State College and was a member of both the National Serigraphy Society and the American Color Print Society. Another of McConnell’s mid-century modernist, jazz-inspired serigraphs,’Combo’, is featured in the British Museum’s 2008 publication (and traveling exhibition)’The American Scene: Prints from Hopper to Pollock’. Included in the numerous exhibitions of the artist’s work are: Whitney Museum of American Art, 1941; Kansas City Art Institute, 1941-42; American Color Print Society, 1942 (prize); Northwest Print Museum, 1942-46; City Art Museum of St. Louis, 1942 (prize); Springfield Mo. Museum of Art, 1942 (prize); Zanesville, Ohio, 1945 (prize); Union Seaman’s Service Traveling Exhibition, 1943-33; National Academy of Design, 1946; United States Library of Congress, 1946; Laguna Beach Art Association, 1946. McConnell’s work is held in the permanent collections of Denison University, State University of Iowa, City Art Museum of St. Louis, and the British Museum.
