This is for a Mid Century Architechtural Vintage Gainey CA Pottery Tall Cylinder Floor Planter. In rare color of Terra Cotta. C 14 -18 T line bottom. Piece is either unmarked or so worn cannot make out any longer. Piece is 60 to early 70s. There are 2 very small sliver chips. One on inside top rim and 1 on bottom foot edge. There is 1 small predrilled hole in bottom. There are scuffs, marks ect and water calcium/ lime marks throughout. Inside as well with fading and discoloration from usage. Bottom sit foot also has marks. We are not going to take the time to remove any. There are several ways to remove lime build up. Up to new owner to do as choose. Item sells as is, as you see. Item: For your consideration we are presenting for sale a rare and unusual vintage lamp that was manufactured by Lynard of California. The angular base is constructed of combed wood that’s painted red, and there are brass accents at the top and bottom of the base. There is an on/off toggle switch located at the light socket which is used to control the lamp. A portion of the original sticker label is still present on the bottom side of the base at the back close to where the electrical cord comes out. NOTE : More photos can be made available upon request. We also have a matching floor lamp that we will eventually be listing separately – please inquire if you have interest in both. The lamp measures approx. 20 tall to the socket. The wood base is approx. 16″ tall x 14″ wide x 9 deep. The cloth chenille shade measures approx. 22″ x 22″ x 8.5 tall. The small square at the top of the shade measures approx. 6.5″ x 6.5″ x 2.5. Condition: Given its age, we’d say the lamp is in good condition with no major problems to report. There is some color wear on the lamp, both on the wood and brass (see photos) – nothing that can’t easily be touched up or just left alone – we chose to leave it in the condition in which it was acquired. The chenille shade is a bit dusty on the top, and could definitely benefit from a cleaning. The inner cloth lining shows signs of old moister marks – it can easily be replaced or removed; again, we just left it as it is. There are no chips, cracks, breaks, repairs, etc. The electrical wiring appears to be original, and is in good condition – no frays, splits, exposed wires, etc. The lamp is in fully-functioning, working condition. As with all vintage lighting, we always recommend having the wiring checked by a licensed professional prior to long-term use. NOTE : The lamp will be packaged with extreme care. In the fifties, the Italians really took the lead in setting style trends. A new renaissance was happening in the postwarperiod, a whole new generation was breaking away from the past. In lighting, names like Gio Ponti and Gino Sarfatti became well known among the design community and the Italians were largely responsible for the movement in America from traditional lamps to modern lamps with “goose necks” and conical aluminum shades. Gino Sarfatti’s wall and ceiling mounted “outrageous” goose neck designs from the early forties actually set the tone for the next two decades. A house was not a modern home without at least one goose neck lamp somewhere! This goose neck design places plentiful light where desired. A switch on the shade turns the lamp on or off. This was a high-end piece with marble, birch wood accent and brushed copper. It would be perfect for a desk, den or credenza. This lamp dates to the fifties and was likely an Italian import and attributed to Raymor. Some minor scratches and typical wear throughout. FEATURED: A rare, fabulous example of why GERALD THURSTON remains the King of Mid Century lighting design, this elegant table lamp, with its rare original opal white frosted globe shade, walnut stand and fittings is both Mid Century Modern with a nod to classic lamp styling. Offering great reading and atmospheric light for your room, this gorgeous lamp, reputed to have been done in 1957, is credited as being made by the famous LIGHTOLIER Co. For whom Thurston designed many, many fabulous lamps for decades… The shade, per our research, is really rare, which is no surprise as it’s over 60 years old, glass and fairly thin, so the survival rate on these was not high. The base, which is a weighted and painted solid metal, sits very stably and evenly on any surface, and secures the walnut stem well. The design is very recognizable as a Thurston design, who seemed to love these architectural shapes and looks, using natural woods and metals such as brass and steel to accent the shapes and create interest in something as basic as a lamp. The large top ring, for example adds a flair to this simple walnut stem, and the arm, which is fixed, adds dimension and space to the lamp. The globe, with its interesting shade, very’Danish Modern’ in looks, further creates interest and style to this very cool piece. The lamp in this listing has the original shade, the top ring, and everything else original, which seems to be elusive to find on the market these days all in one lamp. Lucky the new owner to get all this in one lamp, and enjoy great lighting in his/her home, too! MEASURES: 25 inches from the top of the globe to the bottom, base is 8.25 inches diameter, the globe is 11.75 inches tall, and its diameter is 3.75 inches. We feel sure the globe, as well as the lamp itself, were American made, in the 1950’s. It’s stunning in its height and design, and in great condition. We replaced the on/off knob that was missing, and that was the only thing replaced. The globe is in remarkable shape, with only very minor, typical of age, use/storage rim chips whch could be filed off by a glass restorer if desired. Some very minor surface wear on the base, which is coated with a fiber underneath so that the metal doesn’t scratch a table surface and was factory applied. A truly wonderful, very cool and stunning lamp to have in any room, and one that is so classic and yet so Mid Century Modern in its appeal. This is the lamp your friends are going to be really jealous that they did not find it first, and the lamp you will love having in years to come in your home.
