This is a very rare Celadon Opaline vase by the famous Fratelli Ferro studios, in our family collection for many decades. Probably from the 1940s or’50s judging from the two foil labels; we think it is a recreation of an ancient Venetian glass technique inspired by Ming dynasty jade and pottery vessels exported to Venice centuries ago. Most of the Murano pieces we see called “opaline” or’opalino are cased, with the inner layer made of opalescent or pearlescent glass. This exquisite piece is pure translucent celadon glass, thick in body and rising to the. Mouth to an amazing 1/8 thickness. Doubly amazing because it in wholly undamaged, issue-free, pristine condition. Only ware is on the labels from cleaning most probably. A bit of movement marking on the flat polished bottom is slight. We have data banks galore and cannot find another example of this type of Venetian glass though Ferro family studios are ancient, like the Barovier. And Toso families, companies that have teamed up over the years, especially during the 1930s. Really glows in the light! Wish it was bigger, but it is so rare and beautiful, size is irrelevant. About 6″h and about 3″w at most. This was blown in the basic balustrade shape. The pale blue label says “Opaline” “Flli Ferro” “Murano”, the partial gold generic label says “Made in Italy”. This rare form in the Cordonato d’Oro (golden ropes) line by Barovier is done in amethyst glass swimming in gold (aventurine). Darker at the bottom portion as it is thicker. The bullicante (controlled bubbles) addition to the’ropes’ provides an extra dimension. Shape is like one of those squat ribbed squash with a cone on top. Each of the 12 ribs ends at the mouth. With a slight scallop; a bit more refined in design than the larger one we also have listed in gold saturated rock crystal clear. This is a jewel in pristine condition with no issues, not even movement markings on the polished flat applied clear pedestal-type bottom with a 1/2 dollar sized, scooped pontil mark in the middle, and about half of the vintage, red-trimmed white label was one used mid-century. This is a well-documented piece with its exorbitant use of all-over gold, concentrated on the ribs adorned with gold bubbles in a grid pattern. We believe blue is the rarest color, followed by amethyst, red, and salmon/pink. Clear is used in the ashtrays, bowls and little knick-knacks, as well as the vases. This is a very rare Mazzega. C Orb vase- Estate Fresh. Typically you will find the undulating three wave pattern, but this is six “leaves” and is much harder to find, especially in the larger size. The bottom of the vase has been slightly ground and polished so it definitely is a vase and not a lighting fixture globe. Although you could certainly drop in a small battery operated light for a really beautiful display. There is no significant wear or loss to the two gold bands that encircle the vase. The vase measures approximately 13″ tall and 13″ wide. There are five small micks in the rim. Two are very very small. I have done my best to photograph them. This is indeed a superb piece by glass maker master Archimede Seguso. Spanning a wide range of forms and colors, his subject matter included animals and abstract shapes. Born in 1909 in Murano, Italy, he was part of an illustrious legacy of Italian glassmakers, their ancestry spanning over six centuries to the 14th century. Seguso notably led a revival of ancient Venetian glass-making techniques, specifically filigrana, which produced lattice-like patterns. Seguso ran the family business Seguso Vetri d’Arte, from 1937 to 1942. The artist died in 1999 in his hometown of Murano, Italy. The Seguso company continues to produce glass, with works included in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Murano Glass Oil Lamp that is converted to electric. It can easily be changed back without damaging any of the original lamp. It has been one of my favorite pieces but I was lucky enough to find 2 others recently so Im letting this one go. The glass is in perfect condition! It makes a beautiful display piece as a vase for any Murano Glass Collection. Condition is “Used”, but perfect glass and hardware consistent with age. Measures approximately 11 Tall and 5 wide.
