Bio;Born in Rochester in 1918, and a Cum Laude graduate of New York’s Alfred University, Mr. Rubenstein began his professional career in the Chicago world of advertising and design. As Corporate Creative Director for Metromedia, Inc. He served as curator of the extensive art holdings of John Werner Kluge, Chairman of the media conglomerate. At retirement, Leonard Rubenstein quickly achieved national and international recognition as a ceramicist. Two of his high-fired porcelain bowls are included in the permanent collection of the Renwick Gallery of The Smithsonian; two in the Ross C. Purdy Museum’s Permanent Collection and Best of Show at the American Ceramic Society’s Southern California Section, Annual Juried President’s Show, 2003. Leonard Rubenstein served as President of the Art Directors Club of Chicago; as Creator of Concept for the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition “Images of China: East and West;” and, among his many additional honors, received accolades for his one-man show of painting, pottery sculpture, and photography at the California Museum of Science and Industry.
