This is a super-cool and now becoming hard to find vintage mid-century modern’lozenge’ vase by West German studio Roth Keramic and designed by Dorothea Roth. It is a superb example of the West German Art Pottery Fat Lava style, and although relatively diminutive in size, it has real presence! It is 7 tall (18cm) in bright gloss red with black lava glaze creating the pattern. There is no descernable maker’s mark or size code on the base, but that is not unusual for Roth ceramic. The description is Fat Lava Lozenge 309 pattern. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs, and still bares the maker’s original metalic sticker, although this has become faded. Roth Keramic was founded in the 1960’s by Edmund Roth, with all designs thought to be by Dorothea Roth. A now rare and much sought after classic of the genre.
