If you’ve been hunting for a once-in-a-lifetime statement lamp, this is it. This is a huge illuminated globe made from hand-cut capiz shells set in a leaded/metal mosaic over a round pedestal base. When lit, the nacre swirls glow with a soft, pearly shimmer you simply can’t capture in photos. It is beautiful, unique, and extremely rare-I have never seen another example in person or online. Era/Style: Mid-Century Modern with strong Art Deco influence. Material: Natural capiz shell tiles, leaded/metal framework, pedestal base. Color/Finish: Pearl/ivory shell with dark grid lines; white base. Size: Large statement scale – oversized globe (see photos for scale; happy to provide exact measurements). Switch/Socket: Standard interior socket; works and lights up beautifully Condition (read). Overall presents gorgeously. There is some damage at the top (see photos); when positioned with the seam facing forward, the flaw is not noticeable. A prior owner glued two small glass pieces into the shell mosaic decades ago (likely 1970s/80s). A restorer could replace those tiles with capiz to make this look nearly brand new. Normal light wear to base consistent with age. This is for the serious collector of capiz shell lighting, MCM, Hollywood Regency, Art Deco revival, boho coastal, or studio craft pieces. It belongs in a special home, design studio, boutique hotel, or gallery. You will likely never come across another example-the scale, material, and globe form make it truly museum-worthy. Additionally, there are some on the top. We’re probably back in the 70s or 80s somebody glued three or four different glass rocks to it. If you turn the lamp like I did in the first couple photos, you won’t see any of this. But I do suggest getting it fixed. Capriz shell is partially broken in a couple areas like I mentioned. Again it’s all basically at the top of the lamp. ? Bottom line: this lamp is big, rare, and breathtaking-photos can’t do it justice. If you’ve been waiting for a true showstopper, this is your chance. I have had people contact me and want me to have this as a part of their movie for the set. I’m willing to negotiate, but please submit your best offers. After days of research, we can’t find anything similar to it in a table lamp. Especially with a base like this from the 1970s. This is extremely rare and extremely unique. Mid-Century Modern Solid Nesting Teak Wood Canister set. The lid and cannister part are all solid wood, one piece for each! The handle has not been added, but rather is an integral part of the entire turned lid. A stunning set to display in your decor! My hubby is is a wood worker and turner, and he felt compelled to revisit his board feet calculation skills… Incredibly, this his six piece set would have required a minimum of 9.5 board feet! What is a board foot you may ask… A unit of lumber measure that is a 1 foot by 1 foot square that is 1 thick. Large and heavy teak wood set measures approximately large 10 1/2 inches high to the top handle by 9 3/8 inch base diameter, medium 8 1/2 inches tall to the top handle by 7 5/8 inch diameter and the small canister is 6 3/4 inch tall to the top handle and 5 5/8 inch base diameter. The set, nested and put on our postal scale weighs in at 10.12 pounds! (4.6 Kg) These have no glue joints, not staved or laminated in any way, and the largest lid would have started out as a massive slab over 4 thick! The lids for the two largest of the set have small reliefs turned into the interior to accommodate the integral teak knobs of the other lids when in nested mode. The overall vintage condition is very good with some minor little marks to the exterior sides of the canisters, commensurate with age.
