These vintage mid-century modern bookends feature a marbled onyx and marble design in a glossy finish. The unique 1950s style showcases a monk figure, measuring 10 inches tall. This rare and odd set of bookends would make a stylish addition to any decor collection. These are heavy and large and are getting harder to find. These came out of a local Catholic Church and were stored and used in the priest commissary. Please note these do show signs of where one of them has a chip at the base, back and bottom. Please see pics for condition. But the chips don’t show when using them as book ends.

These are the most interesting stylish and actually good looking stools we have come across in years We believe 1940s’50s possible’60s but we think earlier. They have cast iron bases. They are adjustable and they appear to be ORIGINAL. The paint is original It’s a chippy pity scratched faded gold finish We have not repainted them or done anything These have some spectacular bones. When they’re fully extended they are approximately 28 1/2 ” tall when they are down they are approximately 19″. Take a look at the underneath of the seat The cone shape really sets them apart. They’re just beautiful. They’re in need of restoration. The wood is nice the lacquer is nice although there are some scratches scuffs pits chips but overall they are very usable as they are. The iron bases and poles are original they’re chippy scratch scuffed I believe some antique gold would really work for these that’s the original color of the iron. How they work at least I think so is you just pop it up and they lock in place when fully extended and then you pop it back up and they go down two of them work well One of them works sometimes and the other one does not lock at all so it’s always in the down position I think it’s a quality restoration. FEATURED: A rare, fabulous example of why GERALD THURSTON remains the King of Mid Century lighting design, this elegant table lamp, with its rare original opal white frosted globe shade, walnut stand and fittings is both Mid Century Modern with a nod to classic lamp styling. Offering great reading and atmospheric light for your room, this gorgeous lamp, reputed to have been done in 1957, is credited as being made by the famous LIGHTOLIER Co. For whom Thurston designed many, many fabulous lamps for decades… The shade, per our research, is really rare, which is no surprise as it’s over 60 years old, glass and fairly thin, so the survival rate on these was not high. The base, which is a weighted and painted solid metal, sits very stably and evenly on any surface, and secures the walnut stem well. The design is very recognizable as a Thurston design, who seemed to love these architectural shapes and looks, using natural woods and metals such as brass and steel to accent the shapes and create interest in something as basic as a lamp. The large top ring, for example adds a flair to this simple walnut stem, and the arm, which is fixed, adds dimension and space to the lamp. The globe, with its interesting shade, very’Danish Modern’ in looks, further creates interest and style to this very cool piece. The lamp in this listing has the original shade, the top ring, and everything else original, which seems to be elusive to find on the market these days all in one lamp. Lucky the new owner to get all this in one lamp, and enjoy great lighting in his/her home, too! MEASURES: 25 inches from the top of the globe to the bottom, base is 8.25 inches diameter, the globe is 11.75 inches tall, and its diameter is 3.75 inches. We feel sure the globe, as well as the lamp itself, were American made, in the 1950’s. It’s stunning in its height and design, and in great condition. We replaced the on/off knob that was missing, and that was the only thing replaced. The globe is in remarkable shape, with only very minor, typical of age, use/storage rim chips whch could be filed off by a glass restorer if desired. Some very minor surface wear on the base, which is coated with a fiber underneath so that the metal doesn’t scratch a table surface and was factory applied. A truly wonderful, very cool and stunning lamp to have in any room, and one that is so classic and yet so Mid Century Modern in its appeal. This is the lamp your friends are going to be really jealous that they did not find it first, and the lamp you will love having in years to come in your home.
