In the fifties, the Italians really took the lead in setting style trends. A new renaissance was happening in the postwarperiod, a whole new generation was breaking away from the past. In lighting, names like Gio Ponti and Gino Sarfatti became well known among the design community and the Italians were largely responsible for the movement in America from traditional lamps to modern lamps with “goose necks” and conical aluminum shades. Gino Sarfatti’s wall and ceiling mounted “outrageous” goose neck designs from the early forties actually set the tone for the next two decades. A house was not a modern home without at least one goose neck lamp somewhere! This goose neck design places plentiful light where desired. A switch on the shade turns the lamp on or off. This was a high-end piece with marble, birch wood accent and brushed copper. It would be perfect for a desk, den or credenza. This lamp dates to the fifties and was likely an Italian import and attributed to Raymor. Some minor scratches and typical wear throughout. Up for your consideration is a very rare solid marble pillar lamp. The marble section measures about 12″ tall and 3.50″ wide. The color is gorgeous dark emerald green with lighter and darker veins running through it on all sides. No damage, cracks to the marble at all. I also have a pink one that i’ll be listing too so check my other listings. I believe this is a vermont marble co. Lamp but without the sticker. Might be a different maker, but stunning regardless. The pink one is listed separately. The lamp has been plugged in and works. The brass has typical wear and pitting. I list them as I find them, traveling the west coast of florida. As with any vintage electric item, please have your electrician inspect it before using. Simply stunning and so unusual. RARE 1956 George Nelson Herman Miller Dresser Cabinet Walnut Marble Black Frame. Listed for sale is a rare vintage George Nelson for Herman Miller black frame and walnut cabinet/dresser. This cabinet dates to circa 1956 and is one of the rarer George Nelson case good designs around. Moreover, this example was custom ordered with a marble top. While I was first skeptical of this marble, I discovered upon exploring the underside that this is a factory-correct marble top. The piece is marked with HM factory marks and uses an innovative solution for securing the marble. Eames shock mounts were taken and glued to the marble as a means of connecting it to the cabinet. Very exciting for a Herman Miller collector or enthusiast. The original Herman Miller round label is still present within the top drawer. Wood: Wood faces are in exceptionally nice condition with minimal notable wear. Metal: Legs are in excellent shape with some light wear.
