Coffeemaker was invented in 1941 by the eccentric chemist Dr. Throughout his career he developed over 300 patents, ranging from cocktail shakers to automobiles. His focus was on making everyday objects more functional, attractive and enjoyable to use. When designing the CHEMEX. Schlumbohm desired to not only make brewing the perfect cup simple, but also to have the vessel be a thing of beauty. Being a chemist, he studied and understood clearly the chemistry behind the extraction of flavor and caffeine from coffee beans. It was this knowledge that led him to invent the double bonded CHEMEX. Paper filters for a perfect extraction every time. For the carafe, Schlumbohm was inspired by the Bauhaus school of design and non-porous labware that would impart no flavor of its own. Using these elements he fashioned the hourglass shape that has now become an iconic part of American history. Made simply from one piece of borosilicate glass and adorned with a wooden collar and rawhide tie, the CHEMEX. Is pure in both form and function. It has been recognized and awarded by both the scientific community as well as the art and design communities. Can be found in museums throughout the world and is included in the permanent collection at the Brooklyn Museum. Corning Museum of Glass. Unseen every day, here is a rarity of yesteryear, a refrigerator bottle in pinch style made by McKee glass company of Jeannette Pennsylvania in the mid 30’s. McKee glass had been making glass since the 1850’s in Jeannette (yes, that’s the other glass company there too) when arguably it invented an opaque glass by mixing obsolete depression green glass with obsolete milk glass that was left over. It can also be detected in left over pots that were buried a long time ago. A former employee told me so that this was the method. I have found evidence over the years of milk glass and green depression showing in streaks on jadite that was not quite all mixed together. It measures 5″ wide, 5″ tall by 7 long. Anyway, here is an unmarked piece of jadite that is attributed to McKee glass company because of the mouth style that is finished off yet not polished. It is molded in two pieces with the mold seam clearly defined and visible. The bottom is completely flat but not ground glass. Not unheard of in the waning of the depression era. The item “Jadite McKee Pinch water bottle, cork to fit RARE” is in sale since Tuesday, May 12, 2020. This item is in the category “Pottery & Glass\Glass\Glassware\Depression\McKee”. The seller is “cambridged” and is located in Modesto, California. This item can be shipped to United States.
