RARE & Beautiful Vintage ISAMU NOGUCHI. By Knoll “Cyclone” DINETTE table. Featuring a 42 top with rare customer-specified original marbleized Formica. Used in the L. We are pleased to offer this rare size: 42 Diameter x 28.5 High Noguchi Cyclone dining Table, which not only retains some patina of 35 years of institutional use, but also includes a meaningful provenance of a bygone era. 36 and 48 inch tables are most common, but are often considered too small for two people or too large for many interiors. This table is the happy middle ground, the perfect size! This stunning and widely recognized icon of the Mid Century Modern period was designed by Isamu Noguchi in 1953, & was produced by Knoll and Associates of N. The sturdy basis for this table design includes a pedestal of precisely bent and welded 1/4 chrome-plated steel rods, a 13 ply birch wood table top with formica surface with a masonite vapor barrier on the underside, and a cast-iron base which was coated with black nylon. In 1964, this table was placed into service in the Los Angeles Times 10th floor dining room, where it was used daily by all levels of staff, from the Printers and Artists to Photographers, Executives, Editors, Clerks, and Journalists 24/7 for nearly 35 years at the Times legacy location on First and Spring Streets in Downtown L. After many generations at this location, The L. Times ceased operations at this location during this past year. Sadly closing a very storied era. Times dining room in which the Noguchi tables proudly served was closed in 1998, and all of the furniture retired. This example has been stored indoors since that time. This is one of a limited number of original tables that we will offer to the public as time permits. The authenticity of this. Noguchi table is unconditionally guaranteed. Condition is as shown in Photos. Table top: the rare original marbleized formica is in serviceable condition with a patina of scratches, a couple of small edge dings, all evidence of printers ink, gum, and varnish on the underside has been removed and cleaned, and the edge has been stripped and cleaned. The chrome pedestal has spotting where chrome has been breached and losses due to feet being placed against the rods. The nylon-coated cast-iron base bears one chip on the edge. There is also some degree of color variation in the application of the Base’s original nylon coating. Every part of this table has been recently cleaned/polished, and t. He pedestal has been polished with a quality protectant polish. That said, the chromed steel is vulnerable to corrosion in damp and or immediate coastal locations. Annual cleaning / polishing of the chrome is suggested in any use environment. Before these tables arrived at the LA Times in 1964, a coat of varnish had been added to the underside of the tables. This coating helped to resist the printer’s ink which invariably found it’s way onto every surface in the building. This varnish was stripped as part of the cleaning process to remove ink and gum residue. Another aspect of the underside that was damaged by the varnish application was the Knoll label. After cleaning, we attached an exact replica of the original label in the same location as the original. Table weighs about 90 lbs. Complete and is 42 across and 28.5 high. Pedestal alone is 22″ diameter x 28″ H & the top is 42″ diameter x 1″ thick. We will coordinate with your shipper to hand-off the table, or will drop it off at their location within a 10 mile radius. We are in Southern California, in the 92627 zip code. We have a good packer / shipper we will put you in contact with. Green tape has been used to locate the attachment points for the top.
